Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else’s work or ideas as one’s own without proper attribution. This includes copying text, ideas, or materials from other sources without giving credit.

Expectations for Students and Faculty

Ubuntu Academic Institute expects all students and faculty members to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity. This means producing original work and ensuring all external sources are appropriately cited.

Consequences of Plagiarism

Students or staff found guilty of plagiarism will face disciplinary actions, which may include receiving a failing grade for an assignment, course failure, or even dismissal from the institute, depending on the severity of the violation.

Plagiarism Detection

We use both manual and software-based methods to detect plagiarism. All submitted assignments may be subjected to plagiarism checks to ensure academic honesty.

Reporting and Appeals

Any individual accused of plagiarism will have the right to be informed of the allegations and provided an opportunity to appeal the decision. Appeals must be submitted in writing within 7 days of the accusation.

Resources for Avoiding Plagiarism

We provide students and faculty access to tools such as citation generators and tutorials on proper referencing methods. Students are encouraged to seek help from instructors or the library if they are unsure how to properly attribute sources.
